Music Makers Premier Adult Band Ensemble Program will enhance your understanding of how a band works.  We’ll break down the songs in detail, stretch out, learn beginnings & endings, refine solos, rhythms, patterns & leads.  You’ll gain control over sound and technique, go over individual parts & combine them to create a better band sound.  Learn different ways to approach a song while gaining confidence as a player.  Play & learn from an advanced level instructor.  Each participant receives access to our student portal where you'll be able to access all class materials.

Jazz Intensive
Performance: Friday, June 21st 2019 at The Bitter End
Do you already have some chops in jazz music & want a deeper exploration of the genre? This workshop provides an opportunity to expand your music skills & your swing horizon. This course will expand your jazz repertoire by covering important tunes from different eras and styles. We will be exploring tunes by iconic artists in jazz such as: Thelonious Monk, Cole Porter, Victor Young, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, etc. This course will also cover a deeper approach to the jazz improvisation process & how to fit better with the other instruments in the band! This is a terrific chance to build your Jazz skills!

Do You Have Limited Stage Experience? We Are Offering This Special Workshop For Those With Limited Stage Experience Or First-Time Performers At The Bitter End! If You Have Family Or Friends That Have Been Looking For A First Time Opportunity To Get On The Big Stage, This Workshop Is For Them! We Will Be Focussing On Learning How To Get A Band Ready For Performing And Getting You Comfortable With The Stage, As Well As Other Musical Elements Of A Performance Such As Dynamics And Developing A Band Sound. More Experienced Musicians Are Also Welcome To Sign Up And Mentor Less Experienced Members. We'll Be Playing A Short Set Of Classic Rock Songs That Are Easy And Fun! We'll Be There To Guide You Along Your Way To The Big Stage!

Come with us and together we’ll revive classic songs and bands from the 60’s through the late 70's! We will include music by artists like Santana, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin, Joe Cocker, Sly and the Family Stone, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Deep Purple, The Stones and more! In addition to your Musical Director selecting a few songs for the first rehearsal, we encourage every band member to bring two song suggestions to the first session as well! Your Musical Director will take your suggestions into consideration and after the first rehearsal, he’ll build the setlist based on what songs will highlight the band's talents!

Greatest All Time Jazz Standards

This workshop will focus on playing the all time greatest classic standards from Jazz. Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Cole Porter, Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk and many other Jazz figures will be considered for selecting the final repertoire. By exploring theses tunes will travel to an amazing music era and we'll understand how these tunes got to the level of: all time great jazz classics.

Are you familiar playing Jazz, but want to explore the genre further? This course is designed to introduce you to new concepts, exploring various elements of the genre. We will explore areas such as: Memorizing Jazz standards, playing blues variations, how to develop a solo over the tunes (more jazz scales and new chords), how to play Modal Jazz, Jazz Waltz, and Jazz Ballads. If you want to continue to increase your musicianship and musical skills, this will be a great course for you! This BLUES WORKSHOP will include a variety of blues artists such as B.B. King, Howlin' Wolf, Bessie Smith, Buddy Guy, Lightnin' Hopkins plus MORE! Your Musical Director will select three songs for the first rehearsal. These are considered “get to know the band songs”. After the first rehearsal, your Musical Director will build the set list based on what songs will highlight the band's talents.

BAND 101: GUITAR AND BASS INTENSIVE WORKSHOP! - Wednesdays
In this 6-week workshop, we will boost your playing level and music understanding by exploring the different roles you can play in a band! This is especially valuable for guitar players who usually have to share with other guitars in the same group. You will learn the different parts/roles guitars can play in tunes (lead guitar, rhythmic guitar, soloist and bass lines as well!) and you will get to explore these different parts and switch roles within the band. This is a perfect opportunity to become a more versatile guitar player and also to explore playing the bass as the rhythmic and harmonic foundation of the band!

Know the basics of swinging but still want to explore deeper the richness of Jazz? This course is perfect for getting a deeper approach into the main elements of Jazz. We will be exploring areas such as: Jazz scales, minor and major Blues, rhythm and changes ("I got Rhythm"), Jazz chords, new ways of comping in a swing situation and a better understanding of the improvisation process: learning how to fit each chord in your soloing. Explore this unique and incredibly fun style of guitar playing by learning the various plucking, strumming, and brushing techniques that give the guitar that Chicken Pickin’ sound. We'll cover hybrid picking, palming, tremolo hand and finger effects, locking into picking patterns, and much more while analyzing the famous playing of pickers like Brad Paisley, Brent Mason, Chet Atkins, and Merle Travis.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

We ask all workshop participants to please make every effort to attend all rehearsals.  If you're unable to attend any rehearsals, you are required to notify Music Makers NY via email musicmakersnewyork@gmail.com at least 48 hours in advance.  When registering, should you have a conflict with a rehearsal date, please make Music Makers aware of the conflict.  Not attending more than 2 rehearsals within an 6 or 8-week performance program can greatly affect the band as a whole.

Cancellation Policy: Once you submit the registration form & authorize payment to Music Makers NY your slot is guaranteed and reserved exclusively for you, therefore, all fees are non-refundable.  

Instrumentalists are guaranteed a slot for their particular instrument, not a vocal slot as well.

Performance Workshops:  We encourage everyone to take an active role in promoting their performance.  

Submitting the Registration Form & authorizing payment  to Music Makers NY means you agree to all of the above terms & conditions
