John Lake - Trumpet Teacher
John Lake is a New York-based jazz trumpet player, composer, and music educator. He plays solo, section, and lead trumpet in groups like David Berger's Orchestra, The Stan Rubin Orchestra, The Cecelia Coleman Big Band, and many more. John is a founding member of the collective progressive jazz-rock group, SHIRLEY, and he also composes and arranges original music for his own acoustic jazz septet, The John Lake Ensemble.
Originally from the midwest, Lake holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Cincinnati’s College Conservatory of Music in Jazz and Studio Music, and a Master of Music in Jazz Trumpet from the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he studied trumpet and improvisation with renowned Chicago favorite Brad Goode. In 2011, John was selected as a finalist in the International Trumpet Guild’s bi-annual Carmine Caruso International Jazz Trumpet Soloist Competition. John has appeared on Denver's Jazz89 KUVO Denver as a featured guest, in addition to performing at the 2013 FONT: Festival of New Trumpet Music in New York, New York; the 2013 St. Petersburg Jazz Festival in Saint Petersburg, Florida; the 2012 Jazz Educator Network National Conference in Louisville, Kentucky; JazzFest Denver 2010; Jazz Peru 2009; and the 2008 International Society for Improvised Music Conference.
