Nelson Montana - Bass, Guitar, Piano, Vocal Instruction, Workshop Coordinator, Composer, Arranger, Producer
Bass guitarist Nelson Montana’s musical career spans several styles and major venues in both live performances and studio recordings. He's been written up in BassPlayer magazine, Modern Drummer magazine as well as several online music sites. www.forbassplayersonly.com rated his YouTube channel as one of the "Top 10 Best Bass Players on YouTube. "
As music critic Jason Russell puts it: “Montana plays in a melodic style a la Paul McCartney yet with a groove and funkiness that would fit into the most hardcore R&B band. He also rocks with a vengeance, ripping out soaring lines and handling the most complex rhythms with complete mastery.”
Having studied music theory at Manhattan School of Music, and drums with jazz great Elvin Jones, Nelson began his career as on of the founders of the band POPULAR SCIENCE – regarded as forerunners to the avant garde art –rock bands of the 80’s.
Nelson then went on mostly as a bandleader and has played with such notable artists as Grammy Award Winner Nile Rodgers (Daft Punk), Billboard Dance chart topper Kim Sozzi, Jazz greats Tal Farlow, Dave Kikoski (Roy Haynes, Randy Brecker) Alex Norris (Vanguard Big Band, Stevie Winwood, Ron Carter), Blues and Rock and Roll legends Bo Diddly, Chuck Berry and The Drifters, plus Broadway giants Ben Vereen, Tony Award winner Idina Menzel and Daniel Weiss (Rent, Hair, ).
Nelson played bass in the Broadway Production of "MamaMia" and appears on the tribute album"Shawn Lane Remembered."
